Chef David Paul

Chef David Paul Johnson is perhaps the most famous Hawaiian chef.  Starting his culinary career in Honolulu in 1978, as an assistant cook, he worked his way up to become Chef Tourneau at the Hyatt Regency Waikki.

In 1982, he started a gourmet catering company.  He then turned his attention to restoring the Lahaina Inn, in 1988.  In 1990, he opened the David Paul Lahaina Grill.

During his time at the Lahaina Grill, his fame skyrocked and his reputation as a master chef and a celebrity chef group.  Appearing on NBC’s Today show, the discovery channel, and cooking in some of the most prestigious kitchens, his notoriety grew within Hawaii and across the United States.

In 2000, he sold the Lahaina Grill and ended his involvement in the with the Honolulu restaurant and turned his attention to his children and wife.

In 2009, he renewed his desire to cook excellent food and opened the famed David Paul’s Island Grill which continues to showcase his amazing cooking skills, talent, and ability to entertain his patrons.
